In the heart of Death Valley,
desert all around.

Eagles chirp in sphere
Lichtensteins see the dark sky
Melt in salt and sand.

Unforgiving Land

Life lasts three weeks here
Burned by salt, blistered by sun
And yet, there is peace.

Bright Bloom
By Veronica Lichtenstein

Seeking a bright bloom
The desert gives roots, instead
Patient and waiting

Today, Pokémon turns 30 years old today. I've been a superfan since 2007, and I still have my very first starter Pokémon, a level 100 Empoleon! My favorite Pocket Monster is Purugly, because it looks just like my childhood cat, Fat Nucky! Who is your favorite Pokémon, and why? Let me know in the comments!

My Lola (grandmother) is in town and will be our guest writer this week. We each wrote 3 haikus, and we each had a theme to them. My theme was my pets, and Lola's theme was her faith, as she is a devout Catholic. Enjoy!

Pickles Is My Cat
By Sam Lichtenstein

Pickles is my cat.
She spends all her time indoors,
has not seen one rat!

MooMoo Is Hungry
By Sam Lichtenstein

Anatone, WA - Population: 38

Last Monday, my friend Colin and I returned from our vacation in Anatone, Washington to visit our good friend Shiloh. Where is Anatone, you ask? It's located up on a mountain in the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley near the borders with both Idaho and Oregon. Population: 38!

Our friend Shane drove us to the airport in Ft. Lauderdale, and we had a layover in Denver. We landed in Spokane at around 11:30 PM (we were a bit early). Shiloh then picked us up and being the over 7-foot tall dude he is, gave me a bear hug and lifted me up into the air with no effort whatsoever!

Picture
On the drive up to his house in Anatone, we could see literally every star in the sky. It was nothing short of awe-inspiring, and pictures really don't do it justice.

Snow was unusually light for February, which is normally the heaviest month for it. We did still have a blast snowmobiling up on Mt. Misery (quite the opposite of a miserable time!), which was about an hour away. It did snow a lot right after we left, though!
Shiloh's parents are also amazing and very kind people, making us several delicious meals and giving us some valentines day gifts and souvenirs! Overall, I'd give my trip an 11/10! Very friendly people, beautiful scenery, and a rustic and charming experience of small-town America!

Good morning everyone, today we have 2 poems. One by me, and the other by my friend Dante Alvarado. Speaking of Dante, check out his website at Danteverse.hiphop, he makes some sick beats!

Goodbye Anatone
By Sam Lichtenstein

Lots of clouds in the
sky. Snow, sleet, rain, but no hail.
Monday was goodbye.

Don't Get Slimed
By Dante Alvarado

Beware the high cube
Gelatinus Maximus
